Through mergers and acquisition, The Boeing Company has been involved in the Australian aircraft and Defence industries for more than 65 years, and currently employs 3,000 Australian nationals. In the last 10 years, Boeing has invested $A350 million in facilities, plant, equipment, and employment and training of Australians, $100 million in technology transfer, $200 million in local research and development and has exported aero structure components worth some $2.0 billion.

The Mondelio Need and Solution

Boeing Australia needed accurate and meaningful forecasts for a broad range of existing and anticipated projects. The existing spreadsheet system was incapable of answering 'What If' questions or simulating comparative scenarios, and was also the cause of considerable inefficiencies in the month-end process.

Boeing Australia required a system that could not only interface with various existing systems, but also produce reports in a timely manner, with short and long-term forecasts, and in a large number of different formats. The new system had to have a much higher degree of integrity and automation than the existing spreadsheet systems and provide the ability to standardise the business process across the organization. At the same time, it also had to provide the flexibility to change structures or methods without the need to re-enter data. In assessing various options, Boeing Australia prototyped Mondelio financial modelling software, and found that it met their demanding needs for forecasting and planning.

A ten-year model, integrating thirty-six months and seven additional years has been developed to meet Boeing Australia's planning and reporting requirements. This Solution means that one system can deliver monthly reporting of actual results, detailed short-term budgets and re-forecasts and detailed long range planning, all with a high degree of automation and integrity. The system provides options to carry out 'What-If' scenario analyses and allows for particular forecasts to be 'frozen' so they can be used for reference and comparison. It also generates over a hundred reports at many different levels.
